A Magical Day of Community

On Saturday 6th December, Penkhull came alive with festive cheer as the village hosted its (soon-to-be annual) Christmas Market at The Marquis of Granby. From the moment the first stallholder began setting up, the atmosphere was buzzing — the kind of excitement only a true community event can create.

By the time the doors opened, the pub was bursting with festive colour, warm lights, and the unmistakable charm of Penkhull. Around 20 stalls filled the space, offering a perfect mix of local creativity, festive treats, and unique gifts. Visitors discovered artisan chocolates, sparkling face glitter, handmade wreaths, wax melts, plants, personalised gifts, knitted items, decorations, cards, jewellery, and homemade treats. Each stallholder brought incredible energy, showcasing the hard work and creativity behind every product.

No Christmas market is complete without festive food and drink — and this year did not disappoint. Mulled wine proved a crowd favourite, filling the air with spice and warmth. Moroccan dishes and legendary Scotch eggs kept visitors coming back for seconds (and thirds), adding heart and flavour to the evening.

Dogs in bandanas, jumpers, and even tinsel collars added to the cosy chaos. Their presence brought smiles and laughter, reminding everyone that the market was truly for the whole family.

The highlight of the evening came when Santa himself made an unannounced appearance. Children sprinted across the pub with wide eyes and huge smiles, eager to meet him. Santa posed for photos, spread festive cheer, and created unforgettable memories — a magical reminder of why these events matter.

Half of the money raised during the market will be donated to the PDSA, December’s chosen charity. The organisation provides vital veterinary care for pets and families in need, and the community’s generosity will directly support animals across the region.

Adding something truly unique, M.A.D Reptiles joined the market with rescued reptiles. Visitors learned about responsible ownership, met snakes and lizards, and even had the chance to hold a snake. The team’s passion and knowledge sparked conversations and inspired bravery among attendees.

Feedback from stallholders and visitors has been overwhelmingly positive. Many stallholders reported their best market of the year, while visitors praised the atmosphere, affordability, and family-friendly nature of the event. The Marquis of Granby was alive with festive spirit, proving once again the strength of Penkhull’s community.

Excitement for next year is already building, with stallholders booking their places before the evening had even ended. Organisers aim to grow the market further in 2025, with more stalls, more food, and even more festive activities for all ages.

To every stallholder, volunteer, visitor, child, dog — and of course Santa — thank you. The Penkhull Christmas Market was a true celebration of community, creativity, and festive joy. Events like this remind us of the power of coming together, and we cannot wait to make next year’s market even more spectacular.
